Kelsey "Smiles" Lamp - Winter 2024
Name: Kelsey Lamph AKA Smiles
Volunteering Since: 2006
This season, we are thrilled to highlight an extraordinary volunteer whose dedication has touched countless lives through our Candlelighters programs. Meet Kelsey, affectionately known as “Smiles” at camp—a name that captures her spirit. Kelsey’s journey with Candlelighters began in 1999 when she was diagnosed with cancer, and even as a child, she found ways to give back. In 2017, she joined us as a volunteer at Camp Firefly, bringing her warmth and energy to the kids. Today, Kelsey continues to make a profound impact as a facilitator for our Angel Sibs program, a compassionate grief support program for bereaved siblings. Her journey embodies resilience, generosity, and hope.
Smiles is an amazing volunteer who gives her all for families just like her. When we asked her why she chose to volunteer for Candlelighters, she said: “Since I was a Candlelighters kid during my treatment, I know firsthand how great of a foundation Candlelighters is for the kids and families it supports.” She loves being able to continue to be a part of the foundation and hopes that she can pay forward some of the kindness that was afforded to her and her family.
Please share a meaningful memory from volunteering with us! One thing that has been really special is being able to see one of my campers at other Candlelighters events. It’s nice to develop a connection that first started at camp.
Two Fun Facts! “1. I have double jointed shoulders, which makes for a fun party trick. 2. I found a chicken on the side of the highway, and now she is my mom’s beloved pet chicken.”
