Being a camp counselor is a rewarding job, and we hope that you’ll be the one to do it!
Camp Firefly is one of the most beloved volunteer opportunities we have at Candlelighters. Volunteers spend a week in Big Bear, California facilitating a medically supervised, traditional, summer camp experience for children diagnosed with cancer and their siblings aged 9-17. At camp, our kiddos make lifelong memories and friends while unburdened by the reality of their diagnosis.
This year’s theme is “jobs”, and we are excited to invite you to “apply” for the opportunity to impact lives.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Must commit to the entire week of camp!
- Must be 20 years old by June 9, 2025.
- Must pass a background check.
New Volunteers must undergo an interview process.
Available Positions:
- Counselor: Assigned to a cabin with 2-3 co-counselors. You will work with the same cabin all week long, occasionally participating in broader activities with the entire age group.
- Activities Crew: (Last year’s Roadies!) Each day is packed full of activities, and it is the Activities Crew that sets up and executes them.

- Jan 28: “Career Fair” Volunteer Mixer
- Feb 7: Final Day to Submit an application
- Feb 20 OR March 1: In Person Group Interviews
- Mar 31: Notification of Acceptance
- TBA: Pre-camp “Corporate Retreat” Social
- Jun 9: Mandatory Onsite Training begins in Big Bear at 8am
- Jun 9-14: Camp!!!!
