As CEO of Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada, I am incredibly fortunate to work alongside an exceptional Board of Directors. Their dedication, compassion, and unwavering support are the bedrock of our mission to provide hope and strength to families battling childhood cancer.
Childhood cancer is a devastating diagnosis that shatters the lives of families. It brings with it not only the fear and uncertainty of the medical journey, but also the overwhelming financial burden of treatment, the emotional toll on the entire family, and the constant worry about the future. At Candlelighters, we believe that no family should face this battle alone.
Our Board of Directors plays a crucial role in ensuring we can continue to provide essential support to these families. They dedicate their time and expertise to guide our organization, ensuring our programs and services are impactful, sustainable, and evolving with the world around us. As laws, regulations, and healthcare change, Candlelighters must be at the forefront of these changes, with strategy and support in place so we’re constantly able to assist our families.
Simply put, our Board members help steer Candlelighters into an organization poised to serve the community and our families for years to come.
I am thrilled to officially welcome two outstanding individuals to our Board: Jason Gray and Rikki Hevrin.
Jason Gray brings a wealth of experience in community service and a deep commitment to improving the lives of others. As Vice President of Government Affairs for MGM Resorts, he has a proven track record of advocating for positive change within our community. His passion for supporting those facing healthcare challenges will be invaluable as we navigate the complexities of the healthcare system and advocate for policies that benefit children with cancer.
Rikki Hevrin joins our Board with a unique and deeply personal connection to Candlelighters. Her brother's childhood cancer diagnosis profoundly impacted her family, and Candlelighters provided a lifeline of support during that challenging time. Rikki's firsthand experience with the challenges faced by families navigating a childhood cancer diagnosis will bring invaluable empathy and understanding to our Board discussions. As a Senior Deputy Attorney General at the Nevada Attorney General's Office, she possesses a strong ethical compass and a deep commitment to justice, qualities that will undoubtedly serve our organization well.
Our Board, comprised of cancer survivors, childhood cancer survivors, parents who have walked this difficult path, and dedicated community members, provides invaluable guidance and leadership. They work tirelessly to ensure Candlelighters continues to provide critical support to families navigating this challenging journey. This support includes:
Financial Assistance: Helping families cover the overwhelming costs associated with treatment, including medical expenses, transportation, and housing.
Emotional Support: Providing a safe and supportive environment through peer-to-peer support groups, family events, and counseling services.
Educational Resources: Offering resources and information about childhood cancer, treatment options, and available support services.
Advocacy: Advocating for policies that improve access to quality care, research funding, and support services for children with cancer.
Future Planning: Analyzing, understanding, and navigating the current state of legal and forecasting legal and legislative changes that could impact the organization.
I extend my sincerest gratitude to each and every member of our Board. Your time, expertise, and compassionate hearts make a profound difference in the lives of children and families facing childhood cancer.
